Did Christian Tell Locke To Keep Jack On The Island?

In There's No Place Like Home (pt. 2) Locke and Jack talk leader stuff at the Orchid. Locke tries to talk Jack out of leaving giving him the whole destiny spiel once again. But he fails to mention that a guy named Christian has told him to move the Island. Which makes me wonder, did Christian instruct Locke to keep Jack on the Island or is Locke freelancing? I still can't decide if Christian wants Jack and Aaron on or off the Island.

Wow, good question. Thinking about an answer makes my frustration with the lack of dialogue in this show surface its ugly head, but if I ignore all that it's a very interesting question.

But why didn't Locke tell Jack about Christian? I guess that CS didn't tell JL about that little bit of info maybe? If it's so goll-darned important that Jack stays, why wouldn't they use all the ammo they had to keep him there? Maybe John finally tells Jack about CS back in The World, and that's what convinced Jack to go back? But why wait to tell him? I don't get that. Arg.

BTW, have a great Christmas! :-D

I noticed as I kept watching that Locke continued to insist that Jacob was directing him to Ben as well. He never mentions Christian. After all that might have changed Ben's plan too.

You know it's also ironic that Ben really didn't need to move the Island at that point. Once Keamy died and the freighter blew up he had essentially bought himself some time to recloak the Island. If Ben had known it was Christian not Jacob issuing the orders he might have acted differently.

Ooh, in fact maybe Ben learns that later. It seems he talked to Locke/Bentham from his talk at the funeral parlor with Jack. Maybe Ben thinks he is not in fact banished as a result and will attempt to return.

Thanks for the Christmas wishes Capcom!

Oh boy, those are some good questions as well! And yes, I was wondering that myself, what was the big rush to move the island so quickly, since their immediate threats were eliminated. It would take some time for Widmore to get another bunch of para-military dupes to the island again. Hmm.

This is mildly offtopic, but it's the direction your quesitons got me thinking in. . .

I wish they'd stopped the finale right there where the island moved and trailed off to "LOST". I had trouble maintaining interest after that point. But it may just be an attention span problem.

I think maybe our big question that we keep saying we didn't get this year was supposed to be "Where did the island go?"

Right! You know a lack of a big question may be because they left us with two cliffhangers this time, i.e., the island disappearing and Locke being in the coffin.

Mabye TPTB were trying to appease two types of fans: the one that likes the people cliffhangers, and the one that likes the freaky science cliffhangers?

That almost never works.. .trying to serve two masters . . .or in this case two fanbases. . .it usually just leaves both halves feeling a bit cheated. Might as well have made one or the other wholeheartedly happy.

I understand that they needed to tell us who was in the coffin, but I agree Lost2010 that that scene really didn't do it for me either as the season ending thonk.

Listening to the commentaries I think they really liked the idea that they were picking the flashes up after the S3 finale and moving forward from there, so ending with the coffin rather than the disappearing island makes sense from that point of view, but emotionally the Island's disappearance was much more loaded for me than Locke's "death."

It's the one thing that makes me want to spoil a little. If the first episode is based around Jack and Co. then I want to wait and save up the episodes and watch them in a row right before we see what happened on the island. But if I get a glimpse of the island in the premier, I'd just as soon watch them as they come. . .

But once you click on a spoiler, you don't know what you're going to get, so I guess I'll stick with abstinance for now. . .LOL

I agree, two cliffhangers was one too many. :o)

Memphish, your questions are very thought provoking! I wonder if Christian usurped Jacob's position by eliminating Jacob? That would be a real twist!

Thinking about your title question again, I'd have to think that if CS did, Locke sure didn't try very hard. There was a lot of, "You gotta stay Jack, and, you're supposed to be here, and, don't be stupid" (paraphrasing here). But considering Locke's previous destructive behavior, he could have at least knocked Jack out and tied him up with some vines or something! :-)

It all reminded me of Moses in the bulrushes a bit. Aaron and/or Jack were sent away because they weren't ready yet to do what the island needed them to do. .. probably Jack, but maybe Aaron.

PS- the spoilers are getting harder to hide from.
