Questions from Tabula Rasa

After rewatching Episode 1.3, Tabula Rasa, I've got some questions.
Answer as many or as few as you'd like.

1. Would you trust Kate?
2. Would you lie so that others would not lose hope?
3. Should Kate have told everyone what she did?
4. Why isn't Kate in jail in the Flash Forward? Has she stopped running?
5. Jack has to finish what Kate and Sawyer started in trying to end the Marshal's suffering. Is it Jack's destiny to clean up the mess Kate and Sawyer leave behind?
6. Is Kate's real issue running or going back?
7. Why didn't the Island heal the Marshal?
8. Did Walt make the rain stop?
9. Jack says they died 3 days ago (Purgartory? JK) and that they should all be able to start over, but do they? Or do they stay who they are for ill as well as good?

10. Why did Charlie change FATE to LATE on his fingers?

11. Did anything ever happen between Michael and Sun?

yes.
did i get it right?

there are so many unanswered questions from the first season, but i'm okay with not getting most of them answered because that just gives the story more depth, makes it a more lived in universe.
I'm actually more fearful of them trying to tie everything together, like the Star Wars prequels. Did Jack really need to be related to Claire?

1. Would you trust Kate?
sure. i'd like to think that if i ever crashed on a deserted island, i'd get the benefit of the doubt.

2. Would you lie so that others would not lose hope?
no. that leadership style is completely ineffective. By not letting people know what is going on, you are disregarding the problem solving abilities of all of the log carriers. They let Locke, Walt & Rose into the inner circle despite them going out of their way to sabotage rescue attempts. Why shouldn't Frogurt be allowed to know that he might run into a polar bear when he's taking a leak in the woods?

3. Should Kate have told everyone what she did?
Openness is probably the best option, for her and the rest of the losties, but her fear of people's prejudice is legitimate. By owning up to her crime, she would probably get a better reception than 'this con has been living in our midst, betraying our trust' I certainly understand her reticence though

4. Why isn't Kate in jail in the Flash Forward? Has she stopped running?
I think she may have been pardoned with a lot of strings attached. I find it hard to believe that the Dharma initiative was conducting its business on mystery island without the knowledge of the world governments, so their rescue might have involved heavy debriefings and a few threats.

5. Jack has to finish what Kate and Sawyer started in trying to end the Marshal's suffering. Is it Jack's destiny to clean up the mess Kate and Sawyer leave behind?
ewww... oh, that's not what you meant.
honestly, i think Jack's destiny is a little bit larger than Kate & Sawyer. He has to clean up everyone's mess. He's done his share of cleaning up after Locke, Michael, Juliet...

6. Is Kate's real issue running or going back?
not sure i understand the question, but i think Kate definitely has issues beyond her status as a fugitive. She's not running on the island but she's certainly kept the drama train rolling.

7. Why didn't the Island heal the Marshal?
Smokey scanned him at the crash site and deemed him an irredeemable prick.

8. Did Walt make the rain stop?
yes. now that we've seen the smoke monster, Yemi, Ben's mom, Jacob... not to mention backward-talking ghost Walt, it's way too cute for Walt's eerie powers to be a matter of coincidence.

9. Jack says they died 3 days ago (Purgatory? JK) and that they should all be able to start over, but do they? Or do they stay who they are for ill as well as good?
Good question. i don't think they do start over. That latest interview with LindelCuse suggested that Lost is ultimately about the characters' lives, nurture vs. nature, actions in the face of adversity... and that's not really possible if they actually got a clean slate on the island. Seeing apparitions from your past walking about on the island certainly seems like your emotional baggage didn't get lost in transit.

10. Why did Charlie change FATE to LATE on his fingers?
i think it was a reference to the rescue party not showing up already.

11. Did anything ever happen between Michael and Sun?
no. the early episodes were playing to the stereotypical racial tension between black and Korean people. Jin was meant to be afraid of Michael's intentions towards Sun, and it was offered as a possible explanation for the beatdown which turned out to be because of the watch. I'm afraid that some of internetica still holds on to a few of these prejudices.

Interestiing Qs!

1) I'll go by the old "Trust but verify" adage. I'd trust everyone a little bit, until they proved themselves to be trustable or not.

2) I never really tell new people that I meet much about myself, so that probbly would not change.

3) I don't think so. I think with her that murder was a one-time thing, so why not try to start on a new page.

4) Not a clue yet.

5) Kind of looks that way doesn't it? But I think that he has washed his hands of that burden after he saw them doing 'the monkey' in the cage.

6) She can't even seem to stay put in one place, as shown by her marriage.

7) There seem to be some conditions to the "who gets healed and who doesn't" issue. But we don't know what they are yet. Maybe Jacob sees everything that goes on and he decides who he wants to be healed? (I hope Chucklez doesn't read that answer) :o)

8) I'd like to think so!!

9) Some folks seem to have taken the opportunity to be a better person (Charlie, Locke) and some haven't.

10) I don't really understand that. Maybe TPTB will tell us eventually. The way his life went, I would think that it would be written the other way around.
