Why Does Hurley Wish He'd Stayed With Jack?

Is it because if he'd hung on the beach odds are Hurley like Rose, Bernard, Juliet and a handful of log-carrying guys would still be on the Island instead of lying to the world? That would be an interesting twist to that declaration.

1) What you said.

2) He feels bad for not giving allegiance to Jack when it really mattered.

3) He wishes that he had died in the frieghter blast.

4) Some other bizarre reason that TPTB will explain to us later.

5) Some other bizarre reason that TPTB will NOT explain to us later. :-)

Capcom,

you hit the nail on the head - tptb aren't always going to tell us everything (though they should) -

however, if Hurley had stayed with Jack, would Ben and Locke have found the cabin??

You know, the reason I asked this was Hurley saying this in 4.1 seemed so important, but I think it was just a bit of a red herring. After seeing all of S4 I'm not sure what Hurley going with Jack would have accomplished. It certainly wouldn't have stopped Jack from wanting to leave the Island so desperately that he'd act any saner than he did in fact.

In retrospect, it looks like it was probably one of those lines they use to set up our expectations. Just like how Sawyer "chose to stay behind". And Sayid "thought with his heart instead of his gun".

I mean, all those phrases played out in a way that you realize the person uttering them had a somewhat skewed perception.

I'm hoping that it will turn out to mean something, but........it's Lost after all.
