Who Was Jae's American Girlfriend?
Jae wants to look like he's dating Sun to get his family
off his back, but actually he met an American woman while
he was at Harvard and in 6 months (which would be
approximately 4 1/2 years before the plane crash) he is
going to marry her. Do you think we'll ever find out who
this mystery woman is? I've heard Kate, but her "I Never"
game participation seems to rule out her being at Harvard.
My best guess would be Penny, but she's not American. An
unimportant and unsolved LOST mystery or something else?

Good question, Memphish! But I'm going with this girlfriend is just an unsolved LOST mystery. It would be cool if it was someone we know or connected somehow to a Lostie, but I really don't think we'll ever find out. That story seems to be closed.
Until you clarified "American" woman, I always thought it was Penny.
As Capcom says though, since Jae's dead, the story is really over.

And the next question about this subject is, did he not love his American girl as much as he thought he did? Since he obviously fell hard for Sun quick enough during their lessons! Fickle guy I suppose.

Probably like Maven said: unsolved Lost mystery, no one we know or need to know. Ah well, RIP Jae. You and your pearls served the plot well.

I've always thought that it may be Kate, but she isn't a Harvard chick..

I too think this story is over.
I like the idea it might be Libby. She told a story about skiing in Vermont which is near Harvard. She also says in that deleted scene with Hurley in the Hatch that she was married 3 times if you count the annulments. Maybe Jae's father had their marriage annulled.
