Who Are These People And Why Are
They Walking Barefoot and
Barelegged Through the Jungle?

Is this part of Ben's group engaged in their stagecraft?
Surely the kids that Eko knows are not part of this group
in spite of the teddy bear. Wouldn't he try to retake
them? Clearly Walt isn't with them or Jin would have
done something. Are these people on their way to the
fake Yurt Village? The Pala Ferry dock? Why leave
Othersville at all?

I hope these are in fact Other Others, but I fear they
are not. This behavior seems out of character from the
Others we meet in Season 3. Chalk this up as another
question for Capcom's Encyclopedia Lostica.

I myself have no guesses on this Memphish. Didn't TPTB tell us last year how many groups there were on the island? Were there more than two? I can't remember, but I got the feeling that it meant that there could still be a native group that did not assimilate into the native/hostile/DI group that Ben and Richard created. Other than that, I don't know what to think.

Thanks for the link. :-)

Memphish,

Is that the same teddy bear they show us when Cindy and the children are outside of Jack's cage? It would be cool if the teddy bear could time travel.

Great questions!!

I'm not sure if this bear is the same as the one I'm The Other 48 Days or in S3. The way its tied up I wonder if they were going to use it to make a trap like Danielle. We've seen no kids other than those on 815, so I'd guess this was not a kid carrying it. Maybe it was Karl.

I'm pretty sure it was the Others, and that that's the same teddy bear. My guess is that, yes, this is part of their stagecraft.

The producers said that there are two factions of Others, and that neither of them are connected to DHARMA or the hatches. They didn't actually say on the island, they just said there are two groups. It's looking like the new people headed to the island are the 'other Others'.

That's my understanding of TPTB description of the Others as well PAA. That's why this scene strikes me so post-S3. These outfits and dirty feet and legs are very different from the Others we saw during S3 both in flashbacks and in their dealings with Jack, Kate and Sawyer. I'm not sure why they bothered with these hillbilly outfits so much in S2 only to abandon them so quickly in S3.

Light bulb going off -- maybe they had gone to retrieve the teddy bear from the Tailies first beach for Zach?

Excellent theory Memphish, they do seem to care about the welfare of the children - albeit in their own weird way.

Memphish, you raise a good point. My guess is that the show was merely playing with the idea that something is much more threatening when you don't know what it is. I think the idea was always to kind of play the Others as omniscient, savage predators for a couple of seasons, then once we actually start getting to know them, they seem more human and less threatening.
